Give Back

Thank you for your interest in supporting the career success of Loyola students. Below you will find a number of ways to get involved!

Become a Loyno Career Mentor!

Want to connect with current Loyola students and share information about your career story and how you got to where you are? Sign up to be a Loyno Career Mentor!

The Career Development Center and the Alumni Association have partnered up to offer students and alumni an easy way to connect, share information about career paths, and give advice.

WHO ARE LOYNO CAREER MENTORS?

Loyno Career Mentors are alumni, friends, and family of Loyola University New Orleans who look forward to having career conversations with students navigating their career paths.

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?

Simply add “Loyno Career Mentor” to the volunteer section of your LinkedIn profile. Please note it is important to use these exact words. This is the search term and the way students will search for and locate your profile. See screenshot below.

In the description of this volunteer entry, you may also (but are not required to) add more information about how you prefer to connect. Below please find example text for the volunteer section. Feel free to copy and paste or add/delete as necessary!

As a Loyno Career Mentor, I am willing to:

  • Connect with Loyola University New Orleans students on LinkedIn

  • Accept requests for informational interviews

  • Share my career story and unique career path

  • Discuss my industry, position, company

  • Review your resume and cover letter

  • Provide advice and guidance about pursuing my profession, gaining experience, and identifying potential opportunities

Please feel free to reach out to me directly by email at [insert your email address here].

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF CANNOT LOCATE THE VOLUNTEER SECTION OF MY LINKEDIN PROFILE?

If you don't immediately see a volunteer section on your LinkedIn profile, this is likely because you have never entered a volunteer entry to your profile. To add this section, visit your LinkedIn page and click the "Add profile section" button underneath your profile picture. The dropdown menu will include an option for "Volunteer experience." See screenshot below.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Once you have added “Loyno Career Mentor” to your LinkedIn profile, you will become searchable by students. Students will have the ability to search for Loyno Career Mentors and filter by industry, job title, geographic location, etc.

If a student is interested in connecting with you, he or she will send you a request to connect with a brief note. Please be aware that LinkedIn only allows notes up to 300 characters to be sent with invitations to connect, so these notes will be brief. Once connected, you or the student will be able to send additional information/schedule a time to connect via the messaging function.

WHO DO I CONTACT IF I HAVE ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS?

Jill Boatright, Director for Career Development, boatrigh@loyno.edu, 504-865-3864.
